I Don’t Have Time

Do you dream of having a profitable business, but don’t have the time to do it?

Do your leads and prospects ever tell you they just don’t have time?

This is my favorite, because this was my own personal excuse.  I was full-time in the Navy when I started, and I told my sponsor I didn’t have enough time to do this business.

His answer is the reason I’m here today.  And I want to show you how to respond to this in a graceful and professional way, like my sponsor did for me all those years ago.

Here’s my experience.

I  had been doing network marketing for about a week or two and I got frustrated, when I got a phone call from Rick, my sponsor.  On that call I just let him know

“Hey, Rick, you know, I appreciate you following up, but, I can’t do this. I just don’t have the time.”

And as always Rick was a very professional man, and I respected him tremendously. His reply just shook me out of it.

He said, “Well, you know what.  Let’s talk about this a little bit because, I don’t want you to feel as though you don’t have the time.”

Rick ended up walking me through something and I’m going to walk it through with you, so that you can come up with your own logic of how this works.

I get it; I really get it. You’ve got this thing called “work” and you’ve got this thing called “sleep” – eight hours for work, eight hours for sleep; and then you’ve got this other area called “everything else.”

Within these three segments you can carve out a little bit of time occasionally for travel, or maybe you sacrifice some time of sleep in order to accomplish something else.

But at the end of the day, it’s these three eight-hour segments. That’s your life.

And the challenge that we’ve got here is that this issue of “not having time” persists until you change it.

It’s not up to someone else to change it; it’s up to you to make a change if you don’t “have time.”

And that is one of the hardest things.

I saw this video with Kevin O’Leary from Shark Tank and he said, “Salary is the drug they give you to forget your dreams.”

Tim Sales Kevin O'Leary
A salary is a drug

And that is just extremely well said because when I signed up in Network Marketing I wanted more… more what? Well, more life, more things, more money, more freedom, more time. I wanted it; all of that.

But yet I was stuck in this thing called the Navy and I knew there was no way I was going to get all of those things I really wanted in life on my salary in the Navy. There had to be another way to get what I wanted.

But how? My schedule was already full.

Leverage: Why Network Marketers Have 11X More $100K Earners

The first principle you need to understand if you don’t have time, is to understand the principle of leverage.

Take a look at this chart, which is discussed in one of my earlier videos, “Network Marketing vs Real Estate.”

network marketing vs real estate income Tim Sales

This chart focuses on the number of successful people.

– In real estate, 25,000 people earn $50,000 a year.

– In Network Marketing, 53,000 people earn $50,000 a year.

That’s significant. Two times more people in Network Marketing make $50k compared to those in real estate.

In the $75,000 category, three times more people in Network Marketing will make that amount compared to real estate.

And in the $100,000 category, 11 times more people in Network Marketing will make that amount compared to those in real estate.

That’s  a huge difference!  11 times more!

network marketing income compared to real estate tim sales

So the question naturally comes up – WHY do Network Marketers make so much more money in every category, than those in real estate?

Well it’s because only one person is doing the Pipeline in real estate. There is just one person who is generating leads, setting the appointments and doing showings and presentations.

But in Network Marketing,  we’re in a group doing it. And so there’s more people doing the Pipeline, and that’s how the Network Marketing business model can create more people in the higher income levels.

That’s leverage working for you – you’re getting paid on a group effort, just not on your own effort.

The Exponential Factor

Another principle that’s important to understand is the exponential factor.

Let’s use the real estate industry again as an example.  Let’s say the average price of a home is $225,000. The agent makes a $5,000 commission on the sale of that home. To make $50,000 the agent would need to sell 10 homes. And I’m guessing the agent would need about 100 leads in order to sell one home.

To sell 15 homes in one year, the agent would need 150 leads, to make $75,000.

And to sell 20 homes in one year the agent would need 200 leads, to make $100,000.

Well, on January 1st, it starts all over again. To hit those same targets the real estate agent has to do that same work all over again the next year.

So looking back at the stat that 11 times more Network Marketers will earn $100,000 a year – even if the stat wasn’t that high of a number, I would still rather do  Network Marketing.

I will always choose Network Marketing because the products are consumable (most times) and it tends to be residual.

Real estate agents have to do 200 leads again next year to make $100,000, and this is without a team. Eventually the agent will run out of time because they’re trying to move 200 leads across the Pipeline.

That’s what the issue is, and it’s the fundamental difference.

tim sales exponential factor

In Network Marketing, you’ve got an exponential factor.  I got 40 customers. I trained my people how to get customers, and I have 36,953 on my team – that’s a 92,000% exponential factor. I sponsored 129 business people, and now I have 41,820. That’s 32,000% X-Factor.

And the thing is, it compounds because we have consumable products. Yes, we have attrition customers. Yes. We have attrition in reps. But when the thing is growing, you can have some attrition and it does not hurt you.

More importantly, this is done with a team. It multiplies time.  In the real estate model you run out of time.

Remember this whole video is about time and I’m letting you know the trap. And the trap in a job is you run out of time. You have to figure out a way to exponentially pop it. That’s the only way.

How I Build My Network Marketing Business

I’m going to show you exactly how I build, so that you get the picture in your head, of really, how “difficult” building a network marketing business is.

You know the Pipeline: generate leads, set an appointment, do a presentation, follow up, you get a customer, serve them. You make money, get a rep, serve them. You make money.

Okay. So here’s the way I build. Looking at the image above, let’s say I start in the area of the smaller circle. That’s where I’m building. I know you can’t see all of hte detail, but you don’t have to. Just picture, is me right there at the top of that little circle. Then, I had to get that one person.

And how did I get that one person?  I did the Pipeline.  And then I’d get another person.  And what if that person didn’t do anything?  Well,  I just stacked somebody below them and then stacked below them, and so on. I just kept stacking and doing the Pipeline. And when somebody would join, I just kept stacking down.

What am I looking for? I’m looking for somebody to do what I do – do the Pipeline. And so when they do, BOOM! It finishes a line.

The large circle is a great example. You can see the straight line – those are the people that I just kept stacking until, BOOM! I sponsored someone and he finished the line.  All of tht activity at that point happened because he is doing the Pipeline better than me. And that’s why I tell people. I have 32 people on my team that make more than me. That’s awesome. That’s the way it should be.

So, real estate agents do not have consumable products that tend to repeat, nor do they build a team. Plus Network Marking has an exponential factor.

You work for two years to try to get one person. And you say, “Man, this is just too much work. It’s just too impossible. I can’t do it.”

Get rid of that thought that’s in you in your head that says that because YOU CAN.

I was in that spot. I told Rick I couldn’t do it because I didn’t have enough time. That’s not true, though. The truth is that I had gotten too many no’s from people I was talking to about the business. And that’s why I “didn’t have time.”

Well, I ended up, over time, figuring out that mathematically it’s about 40 people. I need to talk to 40 people in order to sponsor one person who is going to build that line.

And then there’s all the people in the anti-mlm world, and they’re always like, “Oh, those poor people, you’re just sucking the life out of those people.” Well, every one of those people in that line – I built half their business for them. And you don’t ever hear the anti crowd talk about that.

Where can you join a business where your business partner builds half of your business for you? Or even someone you don’t know who builds half your business for you?

I don’t wait for somebody to build half my business. I know the Pipeline. I don’t need anything else. That knowledge of the Pipeline is gold. I can’t even tell you how many millions it’s worth.

Don’t Have Time?  Here’s How to Make Time

And finally, the third principle you need to understand is this statement here:

I didn’t HAVE time. I decided to MAKE time.

That is the decision you have to make in your head. Everyone has the same amount of time. So get over it because that excuse is going to pop up if you don’t. And, it will pop up all the time.

So, here’s the way that I did it. Looking at the green time schedule in this image:

i don't have time objection, network marketing, tim sales

My work schedule was not exactly like this, but for all intents and purposes, I’ll use this as my example.  I’d wake up early and workout and then take a respectable Navy shower. Everyone else would take a Hollywood shower. But I would take a “Navy” shower, which was very fast, so that I could carve out a little bit of time to make phone calls.

The little red lines in the green circle show times where I would carve a little time to make calls and do my business. I’d carve little bits of time while driving to and from work.

Now, the blue circle represents sleep time.  I would go to sleep at 11 pm and wake up at 7 am.

And then the orange circle – right here, from 5 pm when you get home until 11pm, that is where you earn freedom.

And then depending upon what you want to do with your Saturday and Sunday is up to you. I left out Sunday for this example, but following this schedule, if you just carve out a little bit of time every day on breaks, squeeze in some work before bedtime and do 8 hours on a Saturday, it gives you 46 hours a week to work your business.

It was worth it for me to do that. I did it for five years and got to $150,000 a month.  The next time when I built, it took me maybe a month to get to $2,000 a week. It’s because I knew the Pipeline.

So if you really think it through, you’re able to gain back all of this “9-5” time for going and working for freedom. You get to get rid of this eight hours a day. So you are going to gain a lot of time. It could be as many as 10 hours, because if you think about the time it takes to travel to and from work, you could end up getting 10 hours a day, which is quite significant.

This is probably one of my most favorite quotes of my life, which is:

“We are kept from our goal, not by obstacles, but by a clear path to a lesser goal.”

And I believe that that is the most appropriate thing having to do with time. Now, Network Marketing is the only business model that I know that’s going to give you that exponential factor; I’ve never seen anything like it.

Well, maybe in the stock market, if you own the company and you have a lot of shares in the company, there’s an exponential factor. But Network Marketing is the only model I know of for the average person. You just can’t beat it.

How Long Do You Have to Fix This?

When I was in the military, I was sitting in the bleachers at Fort Benning in Georgia for some airborne training and one day there was some discussion going on.

Now, before I continue with the story I need to give you a little framework so you an understand this.

If you look at the picture on the left, you’ll see some ropes connecting the flyer to the chute. These are called risers that go up into the parachute.

And if you look closely around the waist of the man in the picture on the left you’ll see something that looks like a fat belly. That is a reserve parachute that’s used just in case the main parachute doesn’t open.

The picture on the right is a close up of the parachutes. And you can see a lever, and when you jump out of the airplane, if the parachute doesn’t open, then you’re going to pull this lever and it’s going to open up the reserve chute, but it’s very compact.

And so as you’re falling from the airplane towards the ground at a very rapid speed, you’re going to have to get that parachute open and get it to blossom. And if it’s not blossoming, well, you’re going to have to shake the risers and do whatever is needed to be done to get that thing open.

OK, so with that in mind, we were all sitting on some bleachers and there’s this instructor that’s got one of these parachutes around him and he’s walking us through how to do this.

And he says, “You know, you open it up, and you may have to pull out the emergency parachute because you could be falling face down and it’s not catching air.

So the instructor was walking through this thing, and this whiz kid that was sitting in the bleachers says, “Um, sir?”

And the instructor said, “Yes?”

And the student replied, “Um, based upon how high you are, how long do you have to get that parachute open?”

And any of you that have ever been through Fort Benning, you’re going to just laugh right now because you know what kind of answer he got, because the instructors just look at you like you’re the dumbest person in the world.

And then the instructor said, “The rest of your life, that’s how long you have, son.”

And I’ll never forget that because it was just one of those epiphanes.  Who cares that you’re at a certain altitude and it’s going to take you this long. No, you’ve got the rest of your life to get the reserve parachute open because you’re gonna hit the ground.

Total Freedom

I feel that way about time, because if you knew my life and the freedom of my life, you would crawl naked over broken glass to get it because it’s just incredible.

It really, really is. And it’s not just me. I know many, many people. I know people who were in the first company that I built and they have had utter freedom for 30 years now.

Just utter walk away income

And so you get the rest of your life to figure out how to solve this “I don’t have time” problem.

Now it’s your turn. I’d love to know what you think about this topic.

Did you have to solve the time problem?

Are you still trying to solve the time problem?

I know it is a problem, but it’s a good problem because you’re working your way towards freedom.

So, comment down below. I’ll look forward to reading your thoughts.
